Google purchased Motorola Mobility in 2011 and rolled out the first in the Moto X series of phones in 2013. The Moto X line continued through the sale of the company to Lenovo in October 2014, producing the 2nd-generation Moto X in 2013, the Moto X Pure Edition in 2015, and Moto X4 in 2017. Earlier versions of the Moto X line were customizable with colors and real wood backing, but the Moto X4 comes in Super Black and Sterling Blue only.
